LAHORE: Following Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to allow Ayesha Gulalai to retain her National Assembly (NA) seat, Imran Khan filed a petition in Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday to challenge ECP’s ruling.
In its ruling, ECP said that Gulalai was not given enough time to explain herself and the party had failed to prove her resignation. ECP also said that her absence from the NA voting session held to elect a new Prime Minister did not imply abstention.
Imran, in his petition submitted to SC, said that Gulalai was given enough time to explain herself following her accusations against PTI chief. He further claimed that Gulalai had violated the party laws by not voting for its candidate Sheikh Rasheed for the post of Prime Minister in NA after the former primer was disqualified by SC in the Panama Papers case.
