LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau(NAB) organised a cheque distribution ceremony today at the NAB office, Lahore. NAB Director General, Lahore ShahzadSaleem graced the occasion as Chief Guest and handed out cheques among the 629 affectees of the Elite Town Housing Scheme and Ahmed Heights Housing Projects. The cheques amounted to Rs.154.629 million in total – three times the amount of the actual investment made by the effectees when NAB launched investigations into the embezzlement of funds byKashif Khan, Husain Zaki and AzharKazmi.
While addressing the ceremony’s participants Saleem maintained that recovering the embezzled funds was made possible through plea bargain deals with those accused of the embezzlement and that 34 percent of the total amount had been returned to the effectees today.
He further stated that NAB had recovered 50 billion rupees in embezzled funds in the past four years and that the amount was being returned to the concerned organizations and individuals.
The DG NAB then made a warning to corrupt individuals that NAB was closing in on everybody who has engaged in embezzlement and the day would soon come when Pakistan’s people and NAB would stand shoulder to shoulder to make Pakistan a corruption free country.
