ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) assured the Supreme Court on Friday that it would file an appeal within seven days against the Lahore High Court (LHC) decision of quashing the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case against the Sharif family and others in 2014.
Appearing on notice, NAB Prosecutor General Waqas Qadeer Dar assured the court that the bureau chairman had approved and ordered filing of an appeal in the apex court against the LHC decision of quashing the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case. He submitted that the appeal would be filed within seven days without fail.
A five-member larger bench consisting of Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan was hearing an application filed by Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed against NAB for not reopening the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case despite clear orders of the apex court. The court disposed of the appeal after the NAB official’s assurance.
In his application, Sheikh Rasheed, who was also one of the three petitioners in the Panama Papers case, had stated that on July 21, during the hearing of the Panama Papers case, NAB had informed the apex court that it would reply in seven days about the reopening of the case. However, the bureau failed to reply within the given time.
