THARPARKAR: Four more minors, who were under treatment for malnutrition, died on Thursday at the Civil Hospital in Mithi.
According to the Tharparkar Department of Health, the minors were aged between a day and eight months.

The recent deaths of minors have taken the October death toll in Tharparker to 14, and 490 in this year. The deaths reported by the local health department have said to be caused by malnutrition and other diseases in the area.
Every year almost 1,500 children die due to malnutrition, infections, and lack of proper medical facilities in the remote region, the health department reported.

Pakistan is among those countries where the infant mortality rate is very high and at least 22 minors die before turning one month old, the United Nation’s Children Fund reported in April this year.
“Pakistan is the riskiest place to be born as measured by its newborn mortality rate,” the report read.
“A baby born in Pakistan is almost 50 times more likely to die during his or her first month than a baby born in Japan, Iceland, and Singapore,” it added.
